On our farm, the birds are the stars of the show. We have a flock of approximately 30 layer hens of various breeds, sizes, and personalities. Queen Aaron deserves a special mention as the most senior leader of our crew, and is pictured here. Our ladies provide us with a plentiful amount of delicious farm fresh eggs. We also plan to raise Cornish Cross birds with rotational pasture grazing practices to provide high quality meat.
We have 5 Black Indian Runner ducks and 4 White Pekin ducks who share a coop, run, and pond with our flock of chickens. Our ducks also provide us with delicious farm fresh eggs. Duck eggs are unique from chicken with their increased size, larger yellow yolks, and higher nutritional content including higher protein and vitamin B12 content. Our duck gang features one boy, Hank, who is the leader and captain of all shenanigans. If you are within a 5 mile radius, you will probably hear him and his ladies cackling, or see them waddling by in a neat (ish), but slow, line. Although our current core flock of ducks are here to stay, we plan to raise Pekin ducks in the future for meat processing purposes.
In 2025, we raised 4 Broad Breasted White Turkeys. What started as dipping our toe into the turkey world quickly turned into a love for this type of bird. Our turkeys were the perfect partners in crime- always happy to be involved with anything, anywhere, with anyone, at any time. Our turkeys were allowed access to free range grazing as often as possible and processed for meat just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. We plan to continue to raise turkeys for meat purposes in the future.
Quail: the epitome of small but mighty. We have 15 Jumbo Coturnix quail that provide us with their unique brand of farm fresh eggs. Chickens might get the reputation for being mini dinosaurs but quail have the eggs to show for it with their unique spotted patterns. Quail eggs are much smaller than chicken or ducks- approximately 3 are equivalent to one standard egg. But what they lack in size they make up for in nutrients and personality. Since our 15 quail are a variety of genders we plan to incubate and hatch Coturnix quail chicks this coming Spring 2026. Stay tuned for baby chick pictures!

In 2025, we raised 7 Idaho Pasture pigs for meat processing purposes. I cant say that the pigs found their way into our hearts, because a better description would be they bulldozed the wall down to get in. Rambunctious, playful, loud, and forever hungry these guys and gals were an endless source of entertainment- squealing and begging for never ending back scratches and extra food servings. We hope to continue to raise other types of pork breeds to best meet the needs of our family and our community. The pigs diet primarily consists of rotational areas of grazing on pasture in addition to supplementing with standard livestock feed. As a special treat, our pigs also enjoyed helping to clear our fruit orchard trees of any extra fallen products. Our pigs are raised with as little as intervention as possible, to let nature guide the process of creating the highest quality of meat. Our pigs are not administered antibiotics or other supplemental additives.

In 2025, we raised 3 male Khatadin sheep for meat purposes. In 2025, we raised 3 male Khatadin sheep for meat purposes. Similar to our turkeys, what started as a venture into the world of sheep quickly turned into a realization that they will be a staple part of our livestock crew at Dirt Farms. We plan to expand our flock in the 2026 season to include ewes and hope to have some lambs from these ladies in the near future. Our core flock will serve as lawn mowers for hire, enjoying the benefits of a rotational pasture grazing system and helping us maintain the foliage of our land.
